Asia Society Hong Kong Center - Decarbonization in Asia

April 13, 2023
Hong Kong
The Organizer's Announcement:-

As more than half of the planet's CO2 is emitted in the Asia-Pacific, there is no avoiding the fact that Asia must become a leader in the global fight against climate change. While the Asia-Pacific is the region most vulnerable to desertification, flooding, and sea level rise, it also has tremendous resources, including most of the planet's people, megacities, and renewable energy capacity, and must bring all of these resources to bear if they are to reach net zero by 2050.

Join Asia Society Hong Kong Center for a presentation and panel discussion on Decarbonizing Asia, a new book that explores the intersection of decarbonization, innovation, and the Asia-Pacific and provides a snapshot of initiatives by industry leaders and the public sector to reduce emissions.  We will hear from a panel of contributors to the book, as well as from a panel of business leaders whose operations and investments will be critical to the de-carbonization efforts of the coming decades.

HKIB Annual Banking Conference 2022

September 27, 2022
Hong Kong

BlueOnion’s Founder and CEO joined the discussion at the HKIB Annual Conference with Dennis Leung, Jean-Remi Lopez and Sky So on why and how banks should get serious about managing ESG Risks and how intelligent technology is used for data and solutions to assist compliance and stress testing for the banks.

Still, a lot to be done, but simply looking at ESG as compliance will not solve the world’s climate and social crisis. It takes the whole financial ecosystem to sync in the right direction – from product manufacturing to structuring and distribution before they are sold to the consumers.

SCMP Asia Sustainability Conference 2022

August 17, 2022
Hong Kong, Cyberport

Our founder and CEO, Elsa Pau, moderated the SCMP Asia Sustainability Conference 2022 on Green Bonds in Asia. In summary, there is no standard, and it will not likely be a standard that everybody will agree upon any time soon. See below for a recap of some key conclusions from day 2 of the conference.

Sustainable Fitch’s Nneka Nneka Chike-Obi has seen too much lousy reporting, and prudent estimation modeling is inevitable. Green Bonds can only be rated at the issuers’ entity level, and the application of the Climate Vulnerability and ESG Relevance Score is integrated into the issuers’ ratings. TCFD is popular as it ticks all the climate boxes, but SASB has a more transparent framework, especially since it is now integrated with ISSB under the IFRS framework.

Hardik Shah, CFA, emphasized the importance of engagement and understanding their business inside out before investing is critical and shall not just rely on ratings. Advocating the integration of S and G to Green Bond consideration, especially green projects are vast consumers of labor; therefore, safety and working conditions need to be considered.

Joseph HL Chan representing the Hong Kong SAR government pledges diligence on strictly following the Green Bond Framework (GBF) and will follow closely on pre- and post-green bond issuance on their Use of Proceeds. Hong Kong will be adopting the Common Ground Taxonomy (CGT) once it is ready, and he is confident that Hong Kong will be the leader in Asia for Green Bond issuance.

Eureka Nova/New World Development Group 1.5°C Summit

September 5, 2022
Hong Kong

The Organizer's Recap:-

The closing panel Investment Strategy: Washing out greenwashing for the 1.5°C Summit. Great discussion with Amie ShuttleworthDjoann Fal Elsa Pau Mingles Tsoi on becoming a more innovative and genuinely impactful investor despite all the challenges we face in sustainable investment. We all agreed that a more transparent regulatory framework, more transparency, and more conscious building are needed.

Indeed, sustainable investing is gaining popularity among institutional and retail investors. Trillions of dollars and almost 6,000 ESG funds are available in the market as of December 2021. Sustainable investing remains challenging as there are still a lot of barriers in this space. #Greenwashing, for example, has been cited as the most significant barrier to sustainable investment.

Investors have a crucial role in shaping the sustainable investment landscape and pushing the industry forward. We believe new technologies and innovative solutions are vital in reducing the impacts of climate change and helping us fight climate change. But there is still a lot of work to boost investors' confidence and help them make informed investment decisions.

Speaking of which, every one of us has a role in driving a #sustainable #future. It's never too late to start thinking about what we can do as an individual to help solve the planet’s problems and create a world worth living in for the next generations.
